The lens mount is the most critical mechanical interface in any camera system. It determines flange focal distance — the precise measurement from the mount face to the film or sensor plane — and any deviation from the correct specification will cause focus errors that cannot be corrected in post. A mount or adapter that is even a fraction of a millimetre out of tolerance will shift the focus plane, meaning your lens will not achieve correct infinity focus, or will only focus accurately at certain distances. On a professional production, this is not a recoverable situation.
Cinelux products are machined and individually inspected to tight tolerances before dispatch. We do not ship products that fail our flange depth checks. Every mount ring and adapter in our catalogue has been selected because it meets the mechanical specification for the stated lens and body combination — not because it is the cheapest option available. This is the standard that camera departments and rental houses expect, and it is the standard we hold ourselves to.
Beyond flange depth, optical alignment matters too. A mount that is correctly spaced but not concentric with the optical axis will introduce decentre — a form of asymmetric softness that is particularly visible at wide apertures. Our mounts are inspected for concentricity as well as flange depth, so you can be confident that the optical axis of your lens is correctly aligned with your sensor from the moment you lock the mount.
If you are building a camera package for a feature, converting a body for a specialist shoot, or simply adding a reliable adapter for your vintage glass, the Cinelux team is available to advise on compatibility before you order. We would rather spend five minutes confirming the right product than have you receive something that does not work for your specific combination.
